Heartbleed Encryption Bug and How it Affects You

heartbleedbugA major encryption security bug called Heartbleed has been recently announced. It was discovered by a member of Google’s security team in conjunction with the Codenomicon software security company.
The bug affects ‘Open SSL’ on web servers running Apache and Nginx software. It has the potential to expose private information that you enter into websites, applications, web email and even instant messages over SSL connections.
The Heartbleed bug has the ability to allow hackers to defeat this Secure Socket Security layer and capture passwords as well as forge authentication cookies and obtain other private information.
Security patches are being applied by all the big vendors online – but it still makes good sense to change all your passwords on Google, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram etc just to be on the safe side.
